We Tried Infinix’s New XOS 15 on the Note 50X; This Is What We Found Out , Urdu Wirsa

Infinix’s XOS is the most low-profile Android UI ever, yet it is the dark horse of this race. Generally, you may have heard folks raving about Oxygen OS for its smooth animations, Xiaomi HyperOS for its customisation features, or FunTouch OS 15 for its fluidity. With XOS 15, Infinix has attempted to bring all these tremendous qualities into one place. And it has managed to come very close to achieving this feat.
I’ve been testing the newly launched Infinix Note 50X 5G+, which comes with XOS 15 out of the box. Here’s what I think about the new skin.
Features
App Folder Customisation in the Home screen
While other operating systems only allow you to enlarge or decrease the folder’s size, XOS 15 provides three different methods to adjust it:
- Users can stretch the entire folder horizontally, displaying only three app icons.
- The folder can be expanded into a vertical column with three app icons visible.
- The folder can be enlarged to a substantial size. This allows for direct interaction with any app without opening the folder.
In addition to size adjustment, folks can now change the colour of individual folders. However, they have to choose from a limited selection of colours as of now. While this may not seem like a revolutionary feature, it just adds that bit of finesse when it comes to customisation.
App Icon Customisation
The XOS 15 now provides a new meticulous way to customise the app icon on the home screen. A long press on the home screen promptly displays an additional option: Icon Style. With this option, users can pick their preferred colours for the icon or opt for it to follow the system-wide colour scheme. Furthermore, selecting one among four options can alter the icon’s shape. You can now adjust its size too.

background: url( 0 0 no-repeat;
}
While this customisation deeply resembles that of Oxygen OS 15, Infinix one-ups it by offering a feature exclusive to any third-party launcher. It allows users to download any third-party icon pack and apply it to the home screen and app drawer.
One significant drawback is that the user interface doesn’t indicate that this feature exists anywhere. I discovered it when I accidentally downloaded an icon pack from the Google Play Store. Once downloaded, a new subhead appeared on My Themes settings with the alias “Icon Pack”.
The other accompanying issue is that it seems buggy at its early stage. Can’t really blame much because the build I’m currently using is a beta version.
While the XOS 15 barely took time to apply the Nothing icon pack, it stopped responding once I picked a completely different one. We’ll be reaching out to the Infinix team for a fix before the public release rolls out.
Wallpaper Customisation
Previously, users could only adjust the background blur on the image selected as their wallpaper in XOS 14.5 under the pretext of customisation. With this latest version, Infinix has included two new functionalities to make the wallpaper fun again:
- Sliding down the “Wallpapers” option now reveals three new wallpaper templates:
- The Vogue template adds a colourful outline around the human bust, featuring groovy patterns in the background. Users can select any colour for the outline. On a side note, the XOS 15 consistently detected edges around my image with precision and outlined it accurately, which is truly remarkable. As you set everything, this template facilitates a smooth transition from the AOD screen to the lock screen. Once tapped, the tiny icon of this template seamlessly covers the entire lock screen.
- The Mondrian template is a collection of coloured blocks arranged differently. Like the previous template, it comes with its transition. First, you will see a mini version of this template on the AOD screen. As you tap on it, it expands into the lock screen.
- The Colour Art template is an array of colour shades in various patterns. There is no limitation on what colour you can select. Moreover, its saturation can be adjusted.
2. Alongside these new wallpaper templates, the XOS 15 features One-Take Wallpapers. Once applied, it seamlessly integrates one of five transitions on the AOD, lock, and home screens.
Dynamic Bar
Since its introduction in the XOS 14, Dynamic Bar has been upgraded with new abilities in the latest update. Beyond its past features, it can display a variety of new service information:
- Google Maps directions
- Hotspot
- Timer
- Stopwatch
- Screen Recorder
- Game Countdown
While it seems stacked compared to what the Oxygen OS 15 provides, it has a minor setback. Currently, it can’t display more than two activities on the top of the screen. Furthermore, only a single task appears at the front if you try to expand the Dynamic Bar. In the case of the Oxygen OS 15, its Live Tiles can show three tasks side-by-side once enlarged.
AI Side of the Business
With the XOS 15, Infinix has prepped itself for the booming trend of Artificial Intelligence in the smartphone arena.
The range of AI-powered features included in the Infinix Note 50X is astonishing. In fact, some of them can easily rival big guns like One UI 7. Let’s explore them:
AI Note
The Notes app now includes a new sketch-to-image feature. It converts your doodles into a similar artwork. While it interprets almost all doodles with great accuracy, the generated image may not be as intended. Still, it is quite a handy tool, especially when you instantly need images for an assignment or a project.

background: url( 0 0 no-repeat;

Writing Assistant
The XOS 15 introduces an AI-powered grammatical tool under “Writing Assistant”. It can be accessed almost anywhere on the operating system. With this tool, you can summarise, proofread, rewrite, or expand paragraphs in different styles. So, writing a long business email without a major blunder becomes child’s play.
Call Assistant:
Have you ever wished for a personal assistant to handle all your calls, allowing you to focus on other important tasks? If so, the XOS 15 has a solution for you. Upon activation, its AI will interact with your caller and respond accordingly. After the call is disconnected, it will summarise the conversation, enabling you to refer to it later.
While it greets callers and compiles conversations, it cannot set reminders on any calendar app. Therefore, you must check the summary regularly to avoid missing any vital information provided by the caller. Besides, the Call Assistant allows you to converse with individuals from various countries without the need to learn their language.
Recording Summary
As the name suggests, this feature transcribes and summarises any voice recording. It works almost flawlessly if the audio you are recording occurs with a proper pause in between. Otherwise, it hallucinates and misinterprets some parts of the audio.
AI Wallpaper Generator
The XOS 15 lets you generate wallpapers from a text prompt or a doodle. Its image generation isn’t as advanced as Midjourney or similar services, but it gets the job done.
XOS 15 vs XOS 14.5: An Overview
If we compare both versions of Infinix’s XOS, it is evident that Infinix had significantly diverged from its original design language.
Previously, the user interface had a cartoonish charm, a rarity among other smartphone brands. As the brand is now en route to incorporating sophistication in its UI, I believe it is losing its endearing characteristic.
Its quick settings page strikes me as an amalgamation of HyperOS 2 and Oxygen OS 15. Opening the settings app for the first time instantly made me compare it to Xiaomi’s HyperOS. The alignment of each option, particularly their icons, resembles the style found in the latter.

background: url( 0 0 no-repeat;
}
#tdi_16_de2 .td-doubleSlider-2 .td-item2 {
background: url( 0 0 no-repeat;
}
While this may cast the XOS 15 negatively, it is far more than this perception suggests. Infinix has included smooth app-opening animations in this budget phone, a feature that other brands have seldom replicated. Furthermore, it has a strong track record of introducing handy features such as an Anti-Theft alarm on its devices. This new software version now carries the torch further with new AI-powered features.
Verdict
While Infinix has stylised the XOS 15 by infusing inspiration from its competitors, it forgoes its unique charm. That said, this new software update has added several new and exciting features, including those powered by Artificial Intelligence. These features are handy. Most importantly, it has shown that the brand is on its way to turning its budget lineup into a formidable product in the market. These phones can now compete with their expensive counterparts as they will be equipped with software features once found in the latter.
In a nutshell, Infinix has paved the way for incredible refinement in the Android operating system with its XOS 15 update.
