Realme P3 5G Review: Affordable Beast in a Silver Armour , Urdu Wirsa

The Realme P3 5G perfectly exemplifies a trend that has gone unnoticed in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment for months. Lately, this segment has witnessed smartphones with features once found in their expensive counterparts. This new Realme phone is no different. Firstly, it boasts insane durability against dust and water. Besides, it is the first phone to bring the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 SoC. Crowning all these features is its 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

While this new phone appears appealing, other smartphones with attractive USPs, such as the Vivo T4x and the CMF Phone 1, already exist within this price range. Does Realme still have a chance of securing a place in the minds of value-conscious customers with its latest smartphone? Is it all talk and no substance? Read my review to find out.

Pricing and Availability in India

The Realme P3 5G is available in three storage variants on Flipkart, Realme’s online store, and leading offline stores. Here’s a look at pricing.

Variant Price
6GB+128GB Rs 16,999
8GB+128GB Rs 17,999
8GB+256GB Rs 19,999

Design and Build Quality

With the Realme P3 5G, I realised for the first time that my dad and I had a completely different opinion regarding the smartphone’s design. To preface, I received the Space Silver variant for review. While my dad praised the phone for its “sober” look, it didn’t vibe with me. I understand it is primarily tailored towards youngsters as it bears a gamer-inspired design on the body. But these decals were cranked a little too excessively.

Realme P3 design(1)

Design Specifications
Colour Options Space Silver (reviewed), Comet Grey, and Nebula Pink
Weight 194g
Thickness 7.97 mm
IP Rating IP66 + IP68 + IP69
Port and Button Placements Bottom: Primary microphone, USB port, speaker grille, and SIM card tray

Top: Secondary microphone and speaker grille

Right Side: Power button and volume button

Honestly speaking, the back panel on the Realme P3 5G seems to be slightly inspired by the Infinix GT 20 Pro. While that’s completely fine, I wish they also took some inspiration for the finish. I say this because the Realme P3 5G collects dust, debris, and fingerprint smudges.

Realme P3 design(2)

That said, I truly appreciate the phone’s build quality. It comprises a 6,000mAh battery, yet it feels light to hold. I own a similar-sized smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A52s, which seems like a paperweight compared to this one.

It appears solid enough to withstand accidental drops without making you curl your toes. With its IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings against dust and water, you can comfortably record the inner world of the sea. Before diving into the action, be sure to read the fine print.

Display and Audio Quality

The thick bottom chin on the front may immediately attract attention, but fades from your peripheral vision once you turn on its screen. I was delighted watching the Split Fiction gameplay and Solo Leveling series because each colour popped up vibrantly with crisp picture quality.

Realme P3 Display

It supports Widevine L1 certification, so you can enjoy watching movies and series in full HD resolution on streaming services like Netflix. What you don’t get is HDR support on Netflix, which is not a dealbreaker, as you would still get an incredible viewing experience.

Display Specifications
Size 6.67-inch
Type AMOLED
Resolution Full-HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400)
Refresh Rate 120Hz
Display Protection AG Dragontrail Star 2
Peak Brightness Claimed: 2000 nits, Tested: 1663 nits
Minimum brightness 02 nits

Catching up on one’s favourite series is a cakewalk indoors at a quarter of the full brightness. This is a no-brainer characteristic because it registered over 1500 nits in our lux meter.

The audio quality gets distorted at full volume. It improves significantly once you lower the level, but the stereo speaker loses its loudness.

Performance and Software

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor debuted with the Realme P3 5G, and its performance has left a lasting impression on me. If we purely speak about benchmarks, it has given phones like the Nothing Phone 2a and Lava Agni 3 a serious run for their money, despite their relatively higher costs. At a similar price point, it has effortlessly surpassed the likes of the CMF Phone 1.

In my normal usage, I witnessed its live examples on numerous occasions. Whether I scrolled my Instagram feed, watched my favourite YouTuber playing a new game, or dabbled in casual gaming, this phone never missed a beat, managing everything.

Hardware Specifications
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4
RAM Up to 8GB LPDDR4X
Storage Up to 256GB UFS 2.2
Storage Test 64848
CPU Throttling Test 89 per cent of its max performance
Software Version Realme UI 6.0 based on Android 15
Connectivity Details Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2
Number of Software Updates Two years of OS updates and three years of security updates

Speaking of gaming, I had a gala playing BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile on the Realme P3 5G. On BGMI, the phone can provide a 90fps gaming experience at the lowest graphical setting. In my case, the frame rate mostly remained above 65fps while the game ran smoothly without lags or stutters. Maybe this occurred because the game wasn’t optimised well for the phone. But it isn’t a major issue as a software or BGMI game update can iron it out instantly.

Realme P3 gaming

Call of Duty: Mobile is where I relived my peak childhood, but with a better framerate this time. In whatever ways I demolished my opponent, the fps meter never flashed numbers below 110fps at the lowest quality.

While the Realme P3 5G had an exceptional performance, it faltered slightly in the software department. I experienced pure app-opening animations on this handset, a surprising rarity in this segment. And, every task was executed swiftly, whether pulling the notification tray or swiping across the settings page. Plus, it had nifty features like anti-theft measures.

realme p3 software

But when I opened the app drawer for the first time, it dawned on me that my upcoming days would brim with spammy notifications. This phone was loaded with several preinstalled applications, including adware games, and two different versions of the same social media app. Accidentally pressing any of these apps meant I would be blasted with unwanted notifications. In this scenario, the CMF Phone 1 trumps with its way cleaner user interface.

Camera

The Realme P3 has a 50-megapixel primary camera, while the other is just a sidekick who barely assists and basks in the former’s glory.

Realme P3 Camera

Cameras Specifications
Primary camera 50-megapixel, 27mm, f/1.8 (OIS)
Secondary camera 2-megapixel depth
Selfie camera 16-megapixel, f/2.4
Video capabilities 4k at 30fps for the rear and 1080p at 30fps for the front camera

While the primary camera clicked appealing photos with vibrant colours and good details in ample lighting, it acted weird if the subject was under shade.

Whenever it caught me trying to photograph something in this particular condition, it would mistake it for a low-light scenario. Consequently, the shutter speed would be reduced without adjusting the ISO to brighten the images, making them blurry on sudden movements. The brighter highlights would also get overblown. Since the algorithm mainly causes this issue, it can be fixed with a future update.

Due to a possibly smaller sensor, I observed plenty of noise in the viewfinder while capturing the local basketball scene at midnight. The phone’s noise reduction would successfully erase it, but at the cost of softening images. While I mostly received blurry photographs due to a lower shutter speed, the AI Snap mode helped me fight back. However, it tended to invite noise in dark regions.

The portrait photos mostly got edge detection on point, while the human skin tones were retained. The front camera can beautifully capture human skin tone, but struggles to maintain the detail.

Battery

The Realme P3 5G impressively comprises a 6,000mAh battery, despite being 7.97mm thick. Another brilliant aspect is that I used this smartphone for more than two days with moderate usage. To recall, I navigated the social media apps, watched an hour-long gameplay video on YouTube, and engaged in casual gaming.

Realme P3 Battery

Battery Specifications
Capacity 6,000mAh
PCMark Battery Test N/A
Charger Support 45W (in the box)
Charging Speed 1 hour 20 minutes

Unfortunately, the PCMark Battery test crashed in our unit. So, it will be updated here once completed. But our in-house testers performed an extreme battery test of phones under Rs 20,000, and the Realme P3 5G excelled spectacularly in our test. The 45W charger takes an hour and 20 minutes to charge the phone completely.

Verdict

The Realme P3 5G is a top contender if you seek consistent peak performance on a budget. Due to its new chipset, the games mostly run stably at a high frame rate. Whatever tasks you throw at the phone, it handles them exceptionally well.

Despite the huge chin, its display provides a remarkable viewing experience because of its vibrant colours and picture clarity. Its 6,000mAh battery ensures your long movie marathons face no interruptions.

It is a charming phone, yet it has some compromises: While the software has smooth app-opening animations with nifty features as a bonus, it is filled with several pre-installed apps. Moreover, the camera needs better tuning to rectify its weird way of handling the photos clicked under different lighting conditions.

But, having said that, the Realme P3 5G still poses as an excellent choice for folks who want a power-hungry phone on a budget. If you want a phone with a cleaner user experience, the CMF Phone 1 can be a great alternative.
