PhonePe Announces its UPI Circle Feature: Steps to Add Secondary Users and more , Urdu Wirsa

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) integrated a new feature in the UPI ecosystem, UPI Circle, almost eight months back. With this feature, a UPI’s primary user can set one of their family members or friends as a secondary user and let them pay using their bank account. Google Pay announced this feature long ago, but it isn’t available nationwide. On the contrary, its rival, PhonePe, revealed through a blog post yesterday that it has begun rolling out this long-awaited feature to its user base. If you wish to use the UPI Circle feature, read this article as we discuss the steps involved.
Steps to activate the UPI Circle feature on PhonePe:
Enabling the UPI Circle feature on PhonePe is a piece of cake, as it involves hardly more than four steps to set up the entire system. To start using this feature, follow the steps listed below:
- Open PhonePe → On its home screen, look for the UPI Circle icon on the “Manage Payments” tab.
- Tap “Invite Secondary Contact” to create the UPI Circle and link secondary users. You can link other users by scanning their QR codes or manually typing their UPI ID.
- Once the invitation is sent, secondary users will join the UPI Circle by accepting the request.

- As secondary users are added to the circle, they can choose the primary user’s account as their primary mode of payment.
UPI Circle Feature: An Overview
As mentioned, the primary user of UPI can enable their family members or friends to make payments using their bank account. The primary user can decide whether to let their secondary users in the circle make the full payment without authorisation. Giving the secondary user complete authority over the payment is known as “Full Delegation,” while the opposite is called “Partial Delegation.”
Primary users can limit the payment to Rs 15,000, and there’s a limit of Rs 5,000 per transaction. While at it, they can set different monthly limits for each secondary user.
Moreover, they can track transactions made by secondary users and revoke their access anytime if they find something fishy.
Primary users can add up to five secondary users to their UPI Circle, but a secondary user can only be linked to one primary user at a time. The feature also alerts primary users when a payment is made by one of their secondary users, even if full delegation is established for that particular user.
